FAQs

How Much Do You Charge?

Our charges range according to venue size, duration of sets, distance travelled to venue and time spent at venue. Please email us for quotes giving as much detail as you can. Our full PA system and lighting rig is always included in our fee as well as compilation music while we are off stage (if required)

Can I see the Band before Booking Them?

We wholeheartedly encourage you to attend any of our public booked gigs to make sure that we are the right band for your type of event. Please see our Gig List for forthcoming shows.

How Long Do You Need To Set Up And Pack Down?

It is essential that we have enough time to enable us to set up all our equipment and sound check. Depending on the venue, access etc., an average time is around 90 minutes if using all our own equipment. If the venue has its own lighting and/or PA system the time will obviously be reduced. We would recommend that enough time is made available to enable us to set up and sound check before the arrival of guests as sound levels can become quite loud before the correct balance is found and can disrupt event.

How Long Do You Play For?

We can perform either two or three sets of live music depending on your requirements. These will usually be two sets of an hour each with one break or three sets of 45 minutes each with two breaks, but we are very flexible and happy to tailor the set/timings etc. to your requirements. In reality we will probably play longer than this taking into account encores playing live for a maximum of around three hours. We would usually finish playing live music before midnight but again this depends on the venue. When we are off stage we can play CD’s through our PA system and for around half an hour after coming off stage until we reach a point of packing down the PA system. The band requires a minimum of an hour to dismantle and pack away all our equipment and this should be taken into account when hiring venues.

Does the Band have Public Liability Insurance?

Yes

Requirements

Wishbone can perform with or without staging, indoors or outdoors, however we do require all equipment to be off the ground on a level secure floor. To perform comfortably we require an area of at least 18ft by 12ft although we can squeeze into smaller spaces. Although not essential, a room for the band to store equipment cases, change/wait in is useful. We will need at least two electrical power sockets delivering 13A each to which we attach extension leads. If power is to be provided from a generator, it is the responsibility of the client/venue to ensure that this is of sufficient rating to power the band safely without the risk of overload, and meets all safety standards. All our mains equipment is regularly PAT tested and PAT labels are clearly visible for checking.

The provision of food and beverages are always greatly appreciated and ensures that the band is on site during times when we are not playing.

Sound Limiters

These are Satan’s work! From past experience sound limiters are always problematic. Most sound levels in entertainment venues will be high – in excess of 95dBA. Trying to maintain levels below this is unrealistic for live music so if your venue has a sound limiter set at 90dBA or lower a live band will not be able to perform at that venue. Even unamplified instruments in the band or audience applause can generate enough sound to trigger a sound limiter and cut the electricity.

The effects of the power cutting out and then coming back on can cause serious damage to our equipment and bring an abrupt end to ALL music which will have a serious impact on your event.

In our experience there is a lot of confusion on how to use and place sound limiters in relation to the band and where the duty of care lies which often makes it impossible for live music. Recent guidelines suggest the rating is set at 85dBA. As we ensure that our volumes are within legal limits (measured over a 20 minute period) we therefore expect that arrangements are made for the venue sound meter to be bypassed and used only as a visual indication of sound levels as otherwise we will not be able to perform.
